 A train from Perth to Aberdeen, an overnight ferry to Shetland, and pick up the car! It takes less than an hour to get from Lerwick, where I was based, to most points in Shetland, and there are sme main roads with 60mph limits across the island. On Shetland, it's all about the archaeology, the magnificent coast, and the birdlife - especially the Puffins! So my first trip was down to Sumburgh Lighthouse, at the southern point,  in search of Puffins.  They are much smaller than most people realise, and the ones nesting on the cliff needed a zoom lens but fortunately this one was not too far away. There are two archaeological sites nearby, but I was booked into Old Scatness on Friday so with the Puffin ticked off the list, I headed back up and west to St Ninians Beach and Isle.  A short post to show some of the Vennel art in Perth. The Vennels are small lanes running between buildings, usually named after the businesses in the area: bakers, butchers etc Most of this art was commissioned and I saw the information at the gallery, but this first one was different These were all down one Vennel - it was either North Boat or Water Vennel leading down to the River Tay And these two were together in Flesher's Vennel

 Next day was a trip out to Pitlochry,  Blair Athol Castle and some scenic walks/sites Pitlochry is a charming town, with lovely old buildings, a river, a Performing Arts centre which seems to be the centre for all sorts of shows and surrounded by amazing walks. They are also proud of their flowers all over town. There is a trail you can follow, but my times was limited, so I only found a couple Here's one but there were flowers everywhere There's a lovely river flowing through, with a Hydro dam and a Trout race. You can fish below it, and this bridge was a perfect spot to stop and admire the skill of the fly fishers They even had a livestream and a count of how many has passed through this year. I didn't see any on the livestream. If I had realised earlier in my planning how many amazing walks are in the area, I might have stayed here.
